Job summary

Wildwood School in Schenectady, NY is seeking a Teacher Assistant Substitute to support classrooms and help students with autism and developmental disabilities under the supervision of the teacher.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, basic computer skills, and a positive, energetic approach. This is a per diem, day shift role with a pay rate of $22.00 per hour and requires two weeks of orientation/training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Word processing, Internet software, E-mail.

Responsibilities

• Assists students, individually or in groups, with specialized instructional programs prepared by the teacher to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• Works with teachers to develop and use available instructional resources, materials and equipment appropriate to planned learning programs for students.
• Helps monitor of students' activities in the halls and cafeteria, on the playground and during arrival and dismissal periods.
• Attends to the physical needs of students such as helping with clothing, or attending to personal hygiene and toilet habits as needed.
• Learns and uses behavior management strategies to increase students' participation in the educational program.
