Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools seeks a Teacher Assistant to support classroom teachers at Mitchell Elementary School. This position is 1.0 FTE and reports to the Classroom Teacher and Building Principal.

Responsibilities include assisting in instructional activities, working with individual and small groups, maintaining student records, and supporting Head Start families through home visits and material preparation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following.
• Associates or Bachelor's degree.
• 60 credit hours from approved post secondary institution, or CDA certificate with the ability to complete additional 30 hours.
• Passing score on MTTC or ETS ParaPro Assessment.
• Experience working with school-aged children.
• Experience working with special education students.
• Must be able to perform academic work at the level of assignment (K-8 or secondary).
• CPI training or willingness to be trained.
• Proof of COVID vaccination required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ALL instructional activities.
• Work with individual children and groups of children on instructional activities.
• Maintain student records.
• Plan and complete home visits to families with children enrolled in Head Start to extend the instructional program into home activities.
• Develop, prepare and reproduce instructional material to be used in the Head Start program.
• Assistance in self-care needs, which may include toileting and occasional diapering.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education
