Job summary

Washtenaw Area Schools Application Consortium invites applications for a Preschool Teacher Assistant (Head Start and ECSE) at Westerman Preschool & Family Center. This 1.0 FTE position supports instructional activities for preschoolers and collaborates with the classroom teacher and building principal.

Ideal candidates hold a CDA or Bachelor’s in ECE, with Head Start experience and a valid Michigan driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree with a CDA or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood/Child Development.
• Experience with young children and diverse backgrounds.
• Head Start program experience preferred.
• Experience with children with special needs.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• HS diploma with 60 credits or CDA, with option to complete 30 more hours.
• Passing MTTC or ParaPro assessments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in all instructional activities.
• Work with individual children and groups on instructional activities.
• Maintain student records.
• Plan and complete home visits to families with Head Start children.
• Develop, prepare and reproduce instructional materials for Head Start.
• Assist with self-care needs (diapering may be required).
• Attend regularly and perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associate’s Degree with a CDA OR

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development

Experience working with young children (under five years of age).

Experience working with children and families of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Experience in the Head Start Program

Experience working with children with special needs.

Valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree.


• 60 credit hours from approved post secondary institution, or CDA certificate with the ability to complete additional 30 hours.


• Have passing score on one of the following state approved academic assessments:




• i. Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)


• ii. ETS ParaPro Assessment

Experience working with special education students

Must be able to perform academic work at the level of assignment (K-8 or secondary)

CPI training or willingness to be trained

ABA training desired

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in ALL instructional activities.


• Work with individual children and groups of children on instructional activities.


• Maintain student records.


• Plan and complete home visits to families with children enrolled in Head Start to extend the instructional program into home activities.


• Develop, prepare and reproduce instructional material to be used in the Head Start program.


• Assistance in self-care needs, which may include toileting and occasional diapering.


• Regular and reliable attendance.


• Other duties as assigned..
