Join to apply for the TEACHER ASSISTANT/DRIVER role at Area Cooperative Educational Services.

Full-time Teacher Assistant/Driver (TAD) needed for students with various special education support needs in the Science-based Approaches to Independence and Life Skills (SAILS) program at ACES Center for Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders (CASDD), Northford, CT.

SAILS serves students ages 11-22 with significant cognitive, social, behavioral, and communication needs. The program emphasizes functional life skills taught in controlled environments and community outings, with transportation provided by the TADs. Responsibilities include transporting students to and from school and delivering instruction in life skills, academics, self-help skills, communication, and behavior support in the classroom.

This role involves comprehensive training and coaching to support staff success. Benefits include health insurance and paid time off. The starting salary is $24.49/hour. SAILS operates on a 190-day school year beginning mid-August, with a summer program in July.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a student-centered team.
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback.
  • Effective communication skills with coworkers, supervisors, and students.
  • Timeliness and excellent attendance.
  • Adherence to ACES and DOT requirements for transporting students, including maintaining a V endorsement.
  • Experience with students in grades 6-12 and transition-age students with behavioral and instructional needs is preferred.
