Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools seeks a Teacher Assistant for Automotive Technology to assist the lab instructor, support diverse learners, and maintain a safe workshop environment. Qualifications

• CDA certificate with ability to complete additional 30 hours.
• Passing scores on WorkKeys, MTTC, or ParaPro assessments.
• Experience in automotive field; ASE certification preferred.
• Ability to operate hoists, tire machines and other equipment.
• Ability to perform basic math and estimation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the automotive teacher in the lab as needed.
• Work with special population students and aid hands-on and academic skills.
• Ensure OSHA standards and dress code compliance.
• Monitor student safety and quality of work in the lab.
• Perform light custodial and maintenance duties.
• Assist with behavior management and social skills.
• Modify instructional materials with teacher.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff.
• Facilitate communication with students, staff and families.
• Maintain records of student progress.
• Ensure safety of students and staff.
• Accompany students on field trips.
• Willingness to be trained in seizure protocol, medications, asthma/allergy care.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Valid driver's license required.

POSITION TITLE: TA- Automotive Technology

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:

• Associates, Bachelor's degree or experience in related field
• 60 credit hours from approved post-secondary institution, or CDA certificate with the ability to complete additional 30 hours.
• Have passing score on one of the following state approved academic assessments: i. WorkKeys Proficiency Certificate for Teacher Assistants ii. Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) iii. ETS ParaPro Assessment
• Experience in the automotive field, valid ASE certification in Maintenance & Light Repair preferred
• Strong automotive skills and ability to operate automotive equipment including hoists, tire machines, and other equipment generally found in an automotive repair/service facility.
• Ability to handle and operate machinery and tools required in the automotive field
• Ability to complete basic math and estimating skills necessary in auto

Effectively able to support a diverse student population and students with IEP's enabling students to successfully complete course expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONISIBILITIES:

• Assist the Automotive teacher in the automotive lab, as needed
• Ability to work with special population students and assist in learning hands-on and academic skills in the auto labs
• Adhere to federal OSHA standards dress code at job site
• Monitor student safety and quality of work in the lab adhering to OSHA standards
• Ability to perform light custodial and maintenance duties
• Provide assistance with behavior management, physical management and social skills
• Work with teacher to modify and create instructional materials
• Work together as a team with teacher(s) and other support staff
• Facilitate communication between students, staff and family members
• Maintain accurate records monitoring student progress
• Monitor activities to ensure safety of student, classmates and other staff
• Accompany students on field trips
• Willingness to be trained in the areas of: seizure protocol, administering medications, asthma/allergy care, other areas as needed
• Regular and reliable attendance
• Other duties may be assigned
• Valid driver's license required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Some supervision of students when the certified staff is temporarily absent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Read, write and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators
• Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
• Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
