Job summary

League School for Autism in Walpole, MA is seeking a Teacher Assistant for our year-round program. Starting pay is $22.50–$26.40 per hour, with schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., depending on experience and education.

The role supports students with autism, implements individualized plans, assists with supervision and transport, and collaborates with the Vocational Coordinator and Education team to promote growth and safety.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or specialized training in a related field or experience working with autistic individuals strongly preferred
  • Para-professional, Teacher’s Aide, or other special education experience preferred
  • Safety Care, CPR, and First Aid certifications (League School will provide training)

Responsibilities

  • Implements lessons and tasks according to Individual Education Programs
  • Supervises students at community-based job sites and provides job-coaching services
  • Acts as liaison for communication between community-based employers and League School's Vocational Coordinator
  • Participates in the development of curriculum content and behavior intervention strategies
  • Collects and records data regarding student performance
  • Develops a therapeutic relationship with students and maintains appropriate boundaries
  • Follows schedules to provide structure and limit stimuli
  • Implements student behavior programs as designed by the team
  • Completes daily paperwork including notes to parents and incident/accident reports
  • Monitors health and safety of students with the School Nurse
  • Attends supervision and staff meetings; participates in trainings
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Education leadership

We are currently seeking a TEACHER ASSISTANT for ouryear-roundprogram in Walpole, MA. Starting pay rate is $22.50 - $26.40/hour, depending on years of experience and level of education completed. Schedule: M-F 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Position Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree or specialized training in a related field or experience working with autistic individuals strongly preferred
  • Para-professional, Teacher’s Aide, or other special education experience preferred
  • Safety Care, CPR, and First Aid certifications (League School will provide training)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass rigorous background checks, including nationwide fingerprint screening.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Implements lessons and tasks, according to Individual Education Programs, within the classroom/school and community settings.
  • Supervises students at community-based job sites and provides job-coaching services for students according to individual program needs. Transports students in League School vans as needed.
  • Acts as liaison for communication between community-based employers and League School for Autism’s Vocational Coordinator according to individual program needs.
  • Participates in the development of curriculum content, behavior intervention strategies and daily living-skill techniques for individual students and follows through on the strategies developed by the team.
  • Collects and records data regarding student performance in instructional and behavioral areas.
  • Develops a therapeutic and effective relationship with students: uses appropriate voice modulation, sets reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc.
  • Follows schedules within the classroom and the school to provide structure and limit stimuli for the students.
  • Implements student behavior programs: positive reinforcement breaks, time outs, etc., as designed by the Behavior Department and the team.
  • Completes daily paperwork, as needed, to include: notes to parents, Incident Reports, Accident Reports, etc.
  • Monitors health and safety of students and follows through with the School Nurse on incidents requiring medical attention.
  • Works as a team player. Attends supervision, classroom meetings, program meetings and staff meetings. Comes prepared with agenda and ready to discuss issues and solutions.
  • Participates in all trainings, as required by League School for Autism.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Education Coordinator, Assistant Director of Education or Director of Education, that are deemed necessary for the operation of the school, such as evening trainings, Open House, etc.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, run, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Employees are required to intervene with student behavior according to the guidelines of Safety Care. These interventions may involve blocking aggressions and restraining students. These physical management procedures may require the employee to move from standing to kneeling, kneeling to standing, and to use both of their arms to restrict movement.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
