RE-1 Valley School District in Sterling, CO, seeks a K–2 Teacher Assistant for Ayres Elementary School. This full-time role supports classroom instruction, early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development in a safe, engaging learning environment.

The position reports to the building principal and teachers, with a 165-day calendar, non-exempt status, 1.0 FTE, and a four-day workweek (Tue–Fri) with benefits. An Associates or higher degree is required.

HIRING IMMEDIATELY FOR 2026/2027 SCHOOL YEAR
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Classroom Teachers

Salary Range & Category: $16.79/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Calendar: 165 days

FTE: 1.0

Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)

POSITION SUMMARY

The K–2 Teacher Assistant supports classroom instruction by working directly with students and assisting the classroom teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This position plays a key role in supporting early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support
  • Assist the teacher in delivering daily lessons and instructional activities
  • Work with small groups and individual students in reading, writing, and math
  • Reinforce foundational literacy and numeracy skills
  • Support implementation of teacher-directed instructional strategies
  • Help prepare instructional materials and learning resources
Student Support
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
  • Assist with classroom routines and daily procedures
  • Prepare and organize materials, supplies, and bulletin boards
  • Support smooth transitions between activities
Classroom Support
  • Assist with preparation of instructional materials and resources
  • Supervise students during instructional activities as directed by the teacher
  • Maintain a structured and supportive learning environment
Data Collection & Documentation
  • Assist in collecting student data as directed by the teacher
  • Support basic progress monitoring and record keeping
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information
  • Help organize and track instructional materials and student work
  • Work closely with the classroom teacher and school staff
  • Communicate effectively regarding student progress and needs
  • Participate in team meetings or trainings as assigned
  • Support school-wide initiatives and positive culture
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Hold an Associates or higher degree
  • Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Experience working with children or youth
Qualifications Preferred but not Required
  • Successfully pass the Work Keys test (through the Workforce Center) for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of behavior support strategies
  • Experience in a school or classroom setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs
  • Basic understanding of instructional support strategies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information

The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the Front Range (I-25 corridor).
