Job summary

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) in Ohio seeks a Teacher Assistant (Union) to support preschool learning under Head Start standards. Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM, 34 hours per week August through June.

The role focuses on safe, developmentally appropriate activities and assisting with lesson plans in a collaborative classroom. Requires a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential or enrollment options; prior early childhood experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDA credential or enrollment to be completed within two years of hire.
• Experience in early childhood development preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate activities and strategies to support preschool development.
• Assist in providing an age-appropriate learning environment accommodating individual differences.
• Promote a positive learning environment and supportive teacher-child interactions.
• Substitute for teaching staff and assist with classroom activities.
• Organize, sanitize and store classroom equipment and supplies.
• Participate in two educational home visits per child per year.
• Maintain accurate records and submit records as requested.

Teacher Assistant (Union)

Pay Rate: $18.00 - $19.61 per hour, based on education and experience

Position Overview:
Provide a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool children. Support daily classroom activities, assist with implementing lesson plans, and ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and applicable regulations.

Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Per Head Start requirements, Teacher Assistants must also meet one of the following:

• Hold a CDA credential (or equivalent state-awarded certificate)
• Be enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years of hire
• Be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or bachelor's degree

Experience:

Early childhood development or related childcare experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate activities and strategies which support the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of preschool children.
• Assist with providing an age-appropriate learning environment that allows for individual differences.
• Assist with promoting and encouraging a positive learning environment and nurturing teacher child interactions.
• Substitute for teaching staff; assist with classroom activities.
• Organize, sanitize and store classroom equipment and supplies.
• Assist in conducting 2 educational home visits per child per year.
• Maintain accurate records and submit records as requested.
• Other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Additional Requirements:

• Initial and periodic physical exams required.
• Must submit to initial and/or periodic state and/or federal criminal checks.
• Must submit to initial and periodic drug and alcohol testing. +
