PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate art learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop motor skills. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for the subject/level assigned
- Certification in Visual Arts (Preferred)
- ESL Certification required within six months of employment
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of the assigned subjects
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Plan and implement instruction to ensure mastery of visual and performing arts, including:
- Developing aesthetic awareness
- Creating visual art
- Demonstrating critical, analytical, judgmental, and evaluative skills
- Understanding the historical, social, and cultural context of artistic accomplishments
- Using skills to design space, sound, and events
Develop and implement art curriculum plans with documented evidence of preparation that meet student needs.Prepare lessons accommodating individual student differences.Focus lessons on understanding processes and cultural contexts of arts, alongside traditional creation of visual products.Present subject matter following guidelines from the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and regulations.Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment tailored to individual needs.Promote high performance expectations and recognize student achievement.Create instructional activities that incorporate various learning styles and student demonstration methods.Provide diverse learning experiences, including displays, portfolios, and electronic media presentations.Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula per IEP guidelines.Maintain positive communication with students, parents, staff, and community.Work with campus teams, the Visual Arts team, and vertical alignment teams.Supervise instructional assistants and volunteers.Integrate technology into teaching and presentations.Assess student achievement regularly and report progress.Participate in extracurricular activities like art clubs.Model positive behavior supporting the school district's mission.Maintain a conducive classroom environment for learning and development.Manage student behavior and discipline proactively and positively.Ensure safety of students, equipment, and facilities.Assist in selecting instructional materials.Establish and maintain communication with students and parents.Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, and community members.Participate in staff development and professional improvement activities.Stay informed of policies and regulations, and maintain required documentation.Prepare student artwork for exhibits and contests.Assign meaningful homework aligned with curriculum goals.Follow grading policies and participate in meetings.Report to work regularly and perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise instructional staff, aides, volunteers, and student teachers.
