Job summary

Birch Family Services in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a part-time floater to oversee the classroom environment, ensuring child health and safety, supporting curriculum, and building positive relationships with children, parents and staff. Qualifications

• 18 years and older.
• HS Diploma and willingness to obtain New York State Teaching Assistant Certification.
• A desire to work with children through positive interaction.
• Prior experience preferred but not necessary.
• Dependable, flexible, and team player required.

Responsibilities

• Room coverage at lunch, for additional prep/writing time opportunities and classroom coverage to support students/classrooms having difficulty napping/teachers that are in training and as necessary.
• Office duties, answering phones, reception coverage.
• Maintain classroom management, sanitation and safety and support student transitions.
• Provide a normal routine by maintaining daily schedule adherence.
• Must keep classroom staff and school administration informed concerning children, and issues.
• Maintaining the Agency’s policies and procedures.
• Attend on-going training.
• Additional duties as required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part‑time position; days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 25 hours per a week.

Physical Demands

• Demonstrate full range of motion. Be able to lift to 40 lbs. Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
