Position

DYS is seeking a Teacher 1 (Science) to oversee facility behavioral healthcare functions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion to habilitate youth.

Key Responsibilities

• Instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) in academic Science programs: provides services, which implement the DYS educational mission; analyzes records to identify student’s immediate - long-range needs (e.g., utilizes student analysis results & approved course of study to develop lesson plans for assignments & activities which meet identified student’s needs); provides individualized instruction & assistance; administers, scores & interprets examination & proficiency indicators; counsels students concerning their performance, behavior &/or personal problems.
• Conducts on-going assessment of student progress to update records of student’s needs & corresponding instructional & training programs: counsels student regarding academic & behavioral progress; documents student progress (e.g., maintains student’s performance reports for use in planning institutional, transitional & community services for youth); participates in institutional treatment activities.
• Cares for & maintains all classroom equipment & learning aides: prepares budgetary proposals, researches, selects, recommends & requisitions for new educational resources (e.g., textbooks, learning aids); maintains necessary inventories & orders supplies & material needed; prepares & maintains required records (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress) & submits reports as required (e.g., attendance, grades, discipline).
• Attends a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment teams, student interviews) & maintains professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops & formal education programs.
