Job summary

1st Capital Gaming is seeking a Gaming Specialist to join our community hub for gamers, collectors, and strategists. You will manage the retail counter, oversee tournaments, and help customers navigate the world of trading card games.

The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of at least two major TCGs, experience handling cash, and the ability to work evenings and weekends when our biggest events happen. You’ll teach new players, keep the play area welcoming, and engage with the community on

Qualifications

1st Capital Gaming is looking for aGaming Specialistto join our team. We aren’t just a retail store; we are a community hub for gamers, collectors, and strategists.

We are looking for someone who understands the difference between Near Mintand Lightly Played, knows the current meta, and thrives in a high-energy social environment. If you have a passion for Trading Card Games (TCGs) and exceptional customer service skills, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

As a Gaming Specialist, you are the face of our community. You will manage the retail counter, oversee tournaments, and help customers navigate the world of TCGs.

1. Retail & Sales:

• Provide expert recommendations on sealed product, accessories (sleeves, deck boxes, mats), and single cards.
• Process transactions accurately using our POS/Kiosk system.
• Card Acquisition:Evaluate, grade, and price trade-ins from customers (assessing condition and authenticity is a critical part of this role).
• Maintain an organized inventory of single cards and sealed product.
• Merchandise/inventory all aspects of the retail environment.

2. Event Management:

• Run weekly events (e.g., Friday Night Magic, Pokémon League, Yu-Gi-Oh! locals) and special weekend tournaments (Prereleases, Store Championships).
• Utilize tournament software such as Wizards EventLink, GEM, or Melee to pair players and report results.
• Act as a judge/arbiter for rules disputes (casual level) and ensure a fair, welcoming environment for players of all ages.

3. Community Building:

• Teach new players the basics of gameplay for major TCGs.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and inviting play area.
• Engage with our community via our Discord/Facebook channels to promote upcoming events.

Who We Are Looking For (Requirements)

• Deep Product Knowledge:Comprehensive knowledge of at least two major TCGs (Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana, One Piece, etc.).
• Retail Experience:Previous cash handling and customer service experience is preferred.
• Availability:Must be available to work evenings and weekends (this is when our biggest events happen).
• Attention to Detail:Ability to sort, alphabetize, and organize large volumes of cards quickly and accurately.
• People Skills:You must be patient with children/parents, welcoming to newcomers, and firm but fair with competitive players.

• Experience buying/selling on platforms like TCGPlayer.
• Certified Judge status for any major TCG.
• Experience with inventory management software (Shopify).
