Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin seeks an experienced Engineer to join the Compliance and Enforcement team within the Critical Infrastructure Division. The role focuses on leading staff, directing program activities, and ensuring safety and compliance in dam-related projects.

The position requires a Texas Professional Engineer license with five years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure, plus post-licensure experience such as academia or teaching.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support staff by assigning and overseeing work, providing input on performance, and planning and directing program activities to ensure timely, thorough reports at a high standard.
• Lead and conduct detailed engineering inspections and evaluations of dams and dams under construction or modification to assess safety and compliance with approved plans; prepare reports and recommendations for owners and engineers.
• Review emergency action plans to ensure they meet state laws, rules, and engineering standards.
• Lead and complete complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and structural studies for proposed and existing dams; prepare reports with findings and recommendations and draft letters outlining needed corrections.

Your Future Team

As part of TCEQ's Compliance and Enforcement, you would help ensure that those we regulate comply with the state's environmental laws. This position is a member of our Critical Infrastructure Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and support staff by assigning and overseeing work, providing input on performance, and planning and directing program activities to make sure work is completed on time and with accurate, thorough reports.
• Lead and conduct detailed engineering inspections and evaluations of existing dams and dams under construction or modification to assess safety and compliance with approved plans. You will prepare reports and recommendations for owners and engineers, draft letters outlining needed corrections, and work directly with owners and their engineers to complete the assessment.
• Review emergency action plans to ensure they meet state laws, rules, and engineering standards.
• Lead and complete complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and structural studies for both proposed and existing dams as needed. You will prepare reports with findings and recommendations and draft letters outlining needed corrections.

Required Education & Experience

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Critical Infrastructure Office.
