Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is seeking a dedicated professional to support the Air Monitoring Division in Beaumont. You will maintain, operate, and audit air monitoring equipment, ensuring QA/QC standards are met and data integrity is preserved.

The role involves collaboration with the Office of Compliance and Enforcement and potential travel. Ideal candidates will have experience with electronic instrumentation, data review, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience reviewing air monitoring data for quality, accuracy, and applicability.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, operate, repair, and audit air monitoring equipment and instrumentation.
  • Operate and troubleshoot continuous and non-continuous air monitoring instrumentation per QA/QC procedures.
  • Coordinate and/or oversee contractors on new air monitoring sites; train and mentor junior staff.
  • Perform QA/QC analysis of data to ensure instrument quality and performance.
  • Conduct laboratory control checks/audits on monitoring instrumentation.

This position is a member of our Air Monitoring Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing
  • Maintain, operate, repair, and audit air monitoring equipment and associated instrumentation to include conducting highly complex surveys and collecting and correlating air monitoring data for the Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) of the TCEQ.
  • Operate and troubleshoot continuous and non-continuous air monitoring instrumentation in accordance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Assist with the coordination and/or oversight of contractors regarding the construction of new air monitoring sites; provide training and mentors junior level staff.
  • Perform QA/QC analysis of continuous and non-continuous data to ensure quality instrument function and performance.
  • Conduct laboratory control checks/audits on continuous air monitoring instrumentation.
Key Qualifications
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic equipment and instrumentation.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience reviewing air monitoring data, or highly technical information, for quality, accuracy, and/or applicability.
Required Education & Experience

Graduation from high school or GED certificate plus four years of full-time experience directly related to the examples of work performed. One year (30 semester hours) of accredited college work which included six semester hours in mathematics, or natural or physical science may be substituted for each year of required experience.

OR

Graduation from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school with a certificate of completion in the areas directly related to the examples of work performed plus two years of full-time experience directly related to the examples of work performed.

OR

A certificate of completion in areas directly related to the examples of work performed from a military technical training program plus three years of fulltime experience directly related to the examples of work performed.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This position requires 30-50% travel and otherwise full-time in-office scheduled at the Region 10 Beaumont facilities.
