Responsibilities:
- Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues including compliance, advising, planning, structuring, and controversies.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing relevant subject matter and industry knowledge to clients.
- Review information on state income tax returns before, during, and after preparation.
- Research and draft technical memoranda or slide decks on income, franchise, sales and use tax, and other state and local tax questions.
- Support multi-state companies with tax controversies, including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing clients at hearings, and preparing protests.
- Help KPMG audit teams review and analyze state tax-related income and balance sheet items; build and manage client relationships; supervise, mentor, and develop staff.
Qualifications:
- Minimum eight years of recent experience in tax research, reviewing state income tax returns, and providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; Licensed CPA, JD/LLM, EA, or MTX, or other approved credentials. Candidates lacking these at hire have one year to obtain an approved credential.
- Proven ability to lead teams delivering state and local income tax compliance and consulting services.
- Ability to develop business and build relationships internally and with clients.
- Excellent writing, compliance, communication, management, and tax research skills.
- Desire and ability to perform in a high-energy team environment.
