About the Role

KPMG is seeking a Senior Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. This role involves assisting multi-state companies with state and local tax issues, providing technical advice, and supporting tax compliance and controversy processes.

Responsibilities

1. Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues including compliance, advising, planning, structuring, and controversies.
2. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing relevant industry knowledge to clients.
3. Review information on state income tax returns and draft technical memoranda or slide decks on various tax questions.
4. Support tax controversies, including preparing clients for audits, representing them at hearings, and preparing protests.
5. Help audit teams with review and analysis of state tax-related items and mentor staff.

Qualifications

1. Minimum eight years of recent experience in tax research, review of state income tax returns, and technical advice on multi-state tax issues.
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; CPA, JD/LLM, EA, or MTX credential or equivalent. Candidates without these credentials have one year from hire to obtain one.
3. Proven ability to lead teams delivering state and local tax services.
4. Strong relationship development skills and excellent communication, writing, and research skills.
5. Desire to perform in a high-energy team environment.
