The City of Hampton seeks a Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue to support residents and businesses by handling personal property, business, and income tax questions, coordinating assessments, and processing returns. The role involves telephone and in-person taxpayer interaction, research, and problem resolution.

Responsibilities include auditing property returns, issuing assessments, and supporting DMV Select operations.

Qualificações

• Minimum one year of full-time equivalent experience in customer service
• Experience working in local, state, or federal agencies or closely related experience
• Effective communication with internal and external customers

Responsabilidades

• Assist citizens with personal property, business, and income tax questions
• Coordinate personal property assessments using DMV records and NADA appraisal guides
• Prepare, receive, and process Virginia income tax returns and support electronic filing of federal returns
• Research and resolve taxpayer concerns via phone, email, and in person
• Support DMV Select operations, including auditing and shipping daily paperwork
• Analyze and audit Business Personal Property returns, depreciation schedules, and asset lists; initiate collection actions for delinquent accounts and issue statutory assessments
• Draft and distribute excise tax notifications and business license renewal materials
• Locate updated addresses for returned mail or delinquent accounts
• Interview taxpayers and handle complex inquiries requiring interpretation of tax laws and codes
