Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Revenue is seeking an Accounting Specialist (S) in the Financial Services Division. The role focuses on managing tax refund disbursements, cash requisitions, and daily reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting in NCFS.

Reports to the Tax Services Manager and collaborates with department leadership. Minimum education includes a bachelor’s in accounting or related field; strong analytical and communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices applicable to state government.
• Ability to analyze accounting data and ensure compliance with laws and guidelines.
• Excellent written and oral communication with internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee tax refund disbursement processes including requisitioning funds and initiating refunds.
• Review and approve check batches prior to printing; supervise direct deposit processes.
• Ensure timely cash requests and accurate daily reconciliation of cash flows.
• Record refund transactions in NCFS and prepare daily gross collections reports.
• Support taxpayers and staff with refund-related inquiries and issue resolutions.
