Job summary

Vertex Inc. in the United States is seeking a Tax Processing Specialist responsible for preparing 700+ monthly sales and use tax returns for level 2-3 clients, applying in-depth compliance knowledge and independent judgment.

You will onboard new clients, review data for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, mentor 1-3 junior staff, and use Vertex VITR, RPA and Alteryx to improve efficiency, with extra hours during peak periods.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of tax processing or related experience.
• In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax regulations.
• Proficient in Excel with high-volume, deadline-driven workloads.
• Excellent communication, customer-focused with relationship-building.
• Ability to mentor and transition work to junior staff.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare 700+ monthly sales and use tax returns for level 2-3 clients.
• Onboard new clients, entities, and data files; ensure seamless transition.
• Review client tax data for accuracy; investigate discrepancies and resolve.
• Support online filings, payments, and tax authority notice responses.
• Format/import monthly data into Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR).
• Maintain monthly client tax compliance reports and documentation.
• Mentor 1-3 junior staff; participate in MSO special teams.
• Leverage RPA and Alteryx to boost efficiency and accuracy.
