Job summary

Vertex Inc. is seeking a Tax Processing Specialist in the United States to prepare 700+ sales and use tax returns monthly for level 2-3 clients. You will review client data, resolve discrepancies, and onboard new entities with independent professional judgment.

You will mentor 1-3 junior staff, collaborate on MSO teams, and leverage Vertex VITR, RPA, and Alteryx to improve efficiency. Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience in tax processing, accounting, or related field.
• In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax compliance regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven workloads.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
• Mentor, coach, and transition work to junior staff effectively.
• Experience with Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare 700+ sales and use tax returns monthly for level 2-3 clients, applying compliance knowledge and professional judgment.
• Independently implement new clients, entities, and data files and supervise onboarding and transition.
• Review client tax data for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and take corrective action.
• Foster strong client relationships via regular communication and timely response to inquiries.
• Format and import data into Vertex Indirect Tax Returns software; prepare monthly compliance reports.
• Utilize RPA and Alteryx to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Serve as trainer/mentor to 1-3 junior staff; participate in MSO teams for process improvements.
• Attend peak processing periods (5th–20th) with optional overtime as needed.
