REDW Advisors & CPAs in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Tax Director of Practice Operations to lead the Tax Department’s day-to-day operations and strategy. You will drive workflows, staffing, and technology adoption to ensure timely, high-quality service and improve profitability.

The role requires 8+ years in tax operations or public accounting, with CPA/EA/JD credentials preferred. You’ll collaborate with principals, managers, and cross-functional teams to balance workloads and optimize performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Operations Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax operations, tax administration, tax compliance management, or professional services operations, including experience supporting tax service delivery and department performance.
• Preferred: CPA, EA, or JD credentials are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the Tax Department, ensuring efficient service delivery and departmental goals.
• Oversee tax compliance workflows and ensure timely engagement completion and filing deadlines.
• Collaborate with Tax Principals and Managers to manage workload, status, and resources across the department.
• Drive process improvement and automation to enhance productivity and client service.
• Monitor metrics like utilization, realization, profitability, and turnaround times.
• Support tax season planning, scheduling, and workload balancing.
• Lead, coach, and develop team members fostering accountability and collaboration.
• Champion technology adoption and AI-enabled tools to streamline operations.
• Coordinate with firm leadership to align staffing and priorities with business goals.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, and compliance with firm policies.
