Overview
A growing wealth management and financial advisory organization is seeking a Tax Manager to join its in-house tax practice. Operating as the tax division of a well-established RIA and wealth management platform, this team works closely with financial advisors, planners, and client service professionals to deliver integrated tax compliance and strategic tax planning solutions.
The Tax Manager will oversee complex tax engagements, provide proactive tax planning advice, research technical tax matters, and lead a small team of tax professionals. The ideal candidate brings strong public accounting experience, deep technical expertise across multiple entity types, and a consultative approach to supporting high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Review
- Review and prepare complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations.
- Manage multiple client engagements while maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
- Ensure compliance with evolving tax regulations and filing requirements.
- Develop proactive tax planning strategies for business owners, executives, families, and high-net-worth clients.
- Prepare tax projections and identify opportunities for tax efficiency and long-term planning.
- Analyze financial information and business activities to support strategic tax recommendations.
- Partner with financial advisors and planning professionals to incorporate tax strategy into broader wealth planning initiatives.
Technical Research
- Research complex federal and state tax matters and provide practical recommendations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting clients and internal processes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax and accounting professionals.
- Review staff work, provide technical guidance, and support ongoing professional development.
- Assist with workflow management and engagement scheduling to ensure deadlines are met.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor on tax planning and compliance matters.
- Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear, client-friendly manner.
- Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships through responsive and consultative service.
Desired Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- 6+ years of recent public accounting experience in Tax, with experience managing people.
- Strong technical knowledge of individual, corporate, partnership, nonprofit, trust, and estate taxation.
- Experience reviewing and preparing complex tax returns.
- Background serving closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Experience with tax software platforms; UltraTax experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
