Duties and Responsibilities
As a key member of the tax services team, the Tax Manager will review individual and business tax returns, support financial reporting, and oversee quarterly payroll and sales tax filings. The Tax Manager will also serve as the primary client contact and daily liaison, applying industry knowledge and experience to the responsibilities below:
Client Relationship Management
- Primary client contact, building strong relationships and managing day-to-day tax needs.
- Develop and maintain meaningful client relationships through clear, direct communication and responsive service.
- Manage multiple client projects efficiently and play an active role in the invoice and accounts receivable process.
- Provide personalized consultation and strategic guidance through direct client communication.
- Prepare and review invoices and ensure timely delivery to clients.
- Keep partners, delegates, and team members informed of project status, deadlines, and client matters.
- Work with management to resolve client-related issues, including accounts receivable matters, while supporting a high level of client service.
Tax Strategy and Client Advisory
- Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and compliance guidance tailored to each client’s needs.
- Review complex tax returns and advise clients on strategies that support compliance and tax efficiency.
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax plans for a diverse client base.
Compliance, Tax Preparation and Review
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for businesses, organizations, and individuals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Meet annual billable hour budget
Financial Data Review and Analysis
- Identify, investigate, and resolve inconsistencies or errors in financial records, documents, and reports, recommending appropriate corrective actions when needed.
Leadership Collaboration and Team Development
- Lead and supervise tax professionals to ensure client projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
- Mentor, train, and provide constructive feedback to support team members’ professional growth.
- Collaborate with management to address client-related matters, including accounts receivable issues, while maintaining a strong commitment to client service.
- Provide constructive feedback, mentorship, and training support to staff, contributing to their growth, motivation, and development.
Project Oversight, Deadline Management, Workflow and Process Improvement
- Manage project deadlines, workflow, and critical timelines including client reporting requirements to ensure prompt delivery, compliance, and accuracy.
- Maintain transparent communication with team members by providing timely updates to delegators on project status and progress.
- Deliver technically accurate work within established timelines, consistently emphasizing quality, accuracy, and reliability.
- Recommend improvements to internal controls and processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness across the firm.
Advanced Bookkeeping and Financial Analysis
- Perform mid- to high-level bookkeeping functions, including financial statement analysis and oversight of month-end and year-end closings; review and supervise related work completed by team members. QuickBooks experience is a plus.
Tax Research and Planning
- Conduct tax research, monitor changes in tax laws, and provide planning insights that help identify potential savings opportunities for clients.
Continuous Learning and Industry Engagement
- Maintain current industry knowledge by pursuing educational opportunities, reviewing professional publications, building professional networks, and participating in relevant organizations.
- Meet & Maintain CPE requirements
Skills and Qualifications
- Education and Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; master’s degree in accounting and CPA license, EA license or CPA in progress, strongly preferred.
- Tax Experience: Prior tax preparation and review experience required; experience with CCH Axcess Tax Suite is a plus.
- Client Service: Experience managing direct, one-on-one client communication required.
- Preparation, Organization and Analysis: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and sound quantitative and analytical capabilities. We expect that if you are invited for an interview, you are familiar with our website and service offerings.
