Tax Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, accounting, and client advisory services for a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients. This role is responsible for managing tax engagements, reviewing complex tax returns, mentoring team members, and providing strategic guidance on tax and accounting matters. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, leadership experience, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service in a collaborative public accounting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, trusts, and other entities.
- Ensure tax filings comply with applicable tax laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Research complex tax issues and provide practical recommendations to clients and internal team members.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and advise clients on strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Stay current with changes in tax legislation and accounting standards.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on tax, accounting, and general business matters.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and responsive service.
- Collaborate with clients to address accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance needs.
- Identify opportunities to expand services and communicate value-added solutions to clients.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and tax professionals.
- Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to support professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative and positive team environment focused on continuous improvement.
Practice Management
- Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring quality, efficiency, and timely completion.
- Coordinate project timelines, workloads, and client deliverables.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes, workflows, and client service delivery.
- Support firm initiatives related to growth, technology, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising or leading accounting or tax professionals.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, U.S. GAAP, and accounting principles.
- Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active pursuit of CPA certification.
- Experience with professional tax preparation and accounting software (such as Thomson Reuters products or similar platforms).
- Experience with QuickBooks or comparable accounting software.
- Experience providing tax planning and business advisory services.
- Proven ability to mentor staff and contribute to team development.
- Experience identifying process improvements and business development opportunities.
