Job description

Making Manager should mean more influence, not just more on your plate

For a lot of Tax Managers, the promotion changes the volume more than it changes the job. More clients, more reviews, more deadlines, more people needing answers. Not necessarily more say in the work itself.

This established CPA firm in North Dallas, TX is looking for a Tax Manager who wants a bigger role across clients, planning, leadership, and how the tax function actually operates. You'd be working with high net worth individuals and privately owned businesses across sectors like oil and gas, healthcare, and hospitality.

The technical work is still there. The difference is you'll be closer to the conversations behind the work, not just accountable for getting it done.

What's different about this move

You'll have real ownership of client relationships year round, not just when deadlines are looming. You'll work directly with Partners and senior leaders, so you're not several steps removed from where decisions get made.

You'll also get broader exposure to planning and advisory work alongside compliance. That means understanding what clients are actually trying to achieve, spotting where planning could help, and becoming someone they rely on for judgement, not just execution.

You'll also have a real voice in workflow, client service, and how junior staff get developed. Hybrid flexibility is available.

The role
  • Leading federal and state tax engagements and owning the quality of delivery
  • Managing relationships with high net worth individuals and business owners throughout the year
  • Spotting planning opportunities and helping clients understand what complex tax matters actually mean for them
  • Working closely with Partners on client strategy and broader advisory needs
  • Reviewing junior staff's work and building both their technical skill and client confidence
  • Weighing in on workflow, service quality, and how the firm supports clients
Who fits

You might already be at Tax Manager level, or you could be an experienced Reviewer ready for broader client and leadership responsibility. You'll need strong public accounting experience, solid technical judgement, and the confidence to manage clients independently.

CPA or EA preferred.

This will likely land if making Manager at your current firm added to your workload without actually adding to your influence, client exposure, or growth.

Maybe you're reviewing more but advising the same amount as before. Maybe you carry the responsibility for clients without much say in how they're served. Or maybe you're just ready for a role where your judgement gets used earlier in the process.

This is about getting involved in the decisions behind the tax work, not just being responsible for the output.

Compensation

$135,000 to $160,000, depending on experience.
