Job summary

iHerb is seeking a Tax Manager in Irvine, CA to lead state, local and international indirect tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance. You will partner with external preparers, manage tax engine configurations, and support audits while staying current with evolving tax laws.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end preparation and filing of state, local, and international indirect tax returns.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax preparers, ensuring data accuracy and timely filings.
• Prepare and review US and foreign indirect tax filings and reconciliations.
• Review and oversee monthly reconciliations of tax accounts on the general ledger.
• Manage SOX control documentation.
• Coordinate information for tax authority audits and ad hoc projects.
• Lead communications and negotiations with tax authorities.
• Maintain the tax calendar, tax notice log, and carryover schedules.
• Remain current on existing and upcoming tax laws.
• Research tax issues and prepare memoranda; maintain legislative materials.
• Lead the tax engine configurations (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) and taxability mappings.
• Drive end-to-end tax engine implementations as SME.
• Develop understanding of tax data for forecasting and automation initiatives.

Job Summary

The Tax Manager will work on various tax reporting, compliance and planning projects as directed by the Director of Tax. The Tax Manager will support and review month end close activities.

Job Expectations

• Oversee the end-to-end preparation and filing of state, local, and international indirect tax returns.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax preparers, ensuring all data provided is accurate and filings meet all statutory deadlines.
• Prepare and review US and foreign indirect tax filings and reconciliations.
• Review and oversee monthly reconciliations of various tax accounts on the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Manage SOX control documentation.
• Manage and gather information for tax authority audits, as well as other ad hoc projects.
• Led communications and negotiations with tax authorities.
• Oversee the maintenance of the tax calendar, tax notice log, and carryover schedules.
• Remain current and up-to-date on existing and upcoming tax laws.
• Research tax issues in all applicable areas of tax including memorandum write-up of results and maintaining legislative materials by reviewing, interpreting, and implementing new or revised laws.
• Serve as the functional lead for the company’s tax engine (e.g., Vertex, Avalara), overseeing tax rule maintenance, jurisdictional mapping, and product taxability configurations.
• Lead or play a key role in the end-to-end implementation of a tax engine and serve as the tax subject matter expert in system implementations.
• Develop understanding of tax data and processes for cash tax forecasting and automation initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Equipment Knowledge

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred.
• Experience with Avalara, Vertex, or other Tax Engines.

Experience Requirements

Generally, requires a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant income tax and/or sales tax and accounting experience, with Big 4/Mid-Tier CPA firms preferred.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.
• CPA required.
• Master’s Degree in Taxation a plus.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $130,000 - $145,000 USD. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as the candidate's relevant experience, education, geographic location, and internal equity.
