Distinct | North America, an established independent CPA firm in McKinney TX, is seeking a Tax Manager who wants to build toward Partner and understand what progression entails.
You will review complex returns, lead client relationships, support planning and advisory projects, and gain leadership visibility within the practice. This role offers a meaningful path beyond a standard Manager position.
A Partner path should be more than a vague promise
By the time you reach Tax Manager, you have usually proved that you can handle the technical work.
You can manage deadlines, review complex returns, deal with clients, and support junior staff.
The bigger question is what comes next.
I am representing an established independent CPA firm in McKinney TX that is looking for a Tax Manager who wants to build toward Partner and have a clearer conversation about what that progression could actually require.
Rather than simply being told there may be an opportunity one day, you will have the chance to understand what the firm values, where you can make a bigger contribution, and how your role could broaden over time.
You will remain close to the technical work, but your role will extend well beyond review.
You will manage important client relationships, work directly with the leadership team, support planning and advisory projects, and gain greater visibility into how the wider practice operates.
You will also play a meaningful role in developing junior accountants and helping improve how the firm supports its clients.
Your judgement will be visible, and so will the impact you make.
You will review complex individual and business tax work.
You will lead client relationships and act as a trusted point of contact throughout the year.
You will support tax planning and advisory engagements alongside senior leadership.
You will coach and develop junior accountants, helping them improve both technically and professionally.
You will contribute to discussions around client service, team development, and the continued growth of the firm.
You will also build the broader leadership and commercial experience needed if Partnership is your longer term goal.
You will need at least five years of public accounting tax experience and a strong technical foundation across individual and business taxation.
A CPA or EA is required.
You should be comfortable managing clients independently, making sound decisions, and supporting the development of less experienced team members.
This could be a strong fit if you already feel capable of more than your current role allows.
You may want greater influence, more exposure to the business side of a CPA firm, or simply a clearer idea of what you need to demonstrate to move beyond Manager.
$125,000 to $160,000, depending on experience.
