Job summary

Well established regional CPA firm seeks a Tax Director to join their growing staff in Los Angeles. Responsibilities include technical review, client service leadership, supervising preparers, meetings and planning for large clients, and mentoring staff.

Qualifications

• Seven to ten years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research.
• At least two years experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
• Minimum one year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting required; Master's degree in taxation preferred.
• Minimum of forty hours of continuing education each year.
• Current and valid CPA license required.
• Must be a member in good standing with the AICPA.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
• Serves as a subject matter expert in discipline or industry.
• Performs client service tasks and ensures assignments are completed within budgeted time.
• Assumes responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to tax preparers as needed.
• Participates in client meetings and tax planning for larger clients.
• Acts as a resource for tax staff on issues and questions.
• Manages client service for clients assigned by the Tax Manager or Partner.
• Communicates important tax developments affecting clients.
• Delegates and manages governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before authorities.
• Develops and trains tax staff, participates in recruiting and performance evaluations.
• Ensures accurate billing and collections and maintains firm philosophy on tax matters.
• Keeps knowledge of economic and political trends affecting tax legislation.
• Participates in practice development through referrals and industry activities.
