Job summary

Blackbeard Operating, LLC, based in Fort Worth, Texas, seeks a Tax Director to build the tax function during its transition to a public company. This hands-on role leads tax strategy, compliance, and reporting, and partners with outside advisors through the Up‑C structure and merger activities.

Reporting to the CAO, you will shape the tax provision, controls, and governance while supporting executive leadership on tax implications for acquisitions, financings, and capital allocation in upstream

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience with leadership.
• Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and partnership taxation.
• Experience with Up-C structures and reverse merger tax reporting.
• Public company experience with SEC reporting and SOX.
• Oil and gas tax experience including franchise, severance, ad valorem.

Responsibilities

• Lead tax strategy, compliance, and reporting for the company.
• Oversee income tax provisions and current/deferred taxes.
• Manage Up-C structuring and merger-related tax work.
• Coordinate with outside advisors and SEC filings.
• Improve tax systems and controls; strengthen tax function.
• Support CFO and board with tax implications of transactions.
