Job summary

Talnt is seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead tax planning, compliance, and advisory engagements for privately held businesses and their owners in a hybrid Dallas office. This leadership role focuses on delivering strategic tax guidance across entities and individuals while mentoring professionals.

The ideal candidate has extensive public accounting experience, strong technical tax expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, JD, or Enrolled Agent credential with authorization to practice before the IRS.
  • Minimum of 8 years of public accounting tax experience or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership experience managing client engagements and developing tax professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws affecting individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and privately held businesses.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex engagements while maintaining exceptional client relationships.
  • Advanced analytical, leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to perform advanced tax research and provide practical, strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with in office collaboration approximately half of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical reviews of complex tax returns and engagement workpapers for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and privately held businesses.
  • Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services related to business and personal transactions, including evaluating tax implications and compliance requirements.
  • Respond to IRS and state tax authority examinations, notices, audits, and other regulatory inquiries.
  • Lead multiple complex tax engagements while managing budgets, staffing, scheduling, workflow, and overall engagement profitability.
  • Conduct advanced tax research on complex federal, state, and local tax matters and prepare technical memorandums supporting tax positions.
  • Develop trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to expand tax advisory and consulting services.
  • Drive business development initiatives by identifying new client opportunities and expanding services for existing clients.
  • Allocate engagement resources effectively to ensure quality service delivery and efficient project execution.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and staff through technical training, performance management, and career development.
  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation and communicate technical updates and best practices to tax professionals across the organization.
