About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Director to join our Private Client advisory practice, specializing in tax planning and compliance for high net worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, gift taxation, and closely held businesses. This leadership role provides strategic tax advisory services, technical review, engagement management, and team development while partnering with clients on sophisticated federal, state, and local tax matters. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in fiduciary taxation, estate and gift tax planning, wealth transfer strategies, and high net worth tax planning within a public accounting environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical reviews of complex tax returns for high net worth individuals, pass through entities, trusts, estates, and gift tax engagements.
  • Advise private clients on estate, gift, trust, fiduciary, business, and personal transactions, providing strategic tax planning and compliance guidance.
  • Lead multiple complex tax engagements while managing project budgets, staffing, scheduling, deadlines, and engagement profitability.
  • Conduct advanced tax research on complex federal, state, and local tax matters and prepare technical memorandums supporting tax positions.
  • Develop trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to expand tax advisory and consulting services.
  • Partner with internal teams to support business development initiatives and identify cross functional client solutions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law changes affecting individual, trust, estate, and gift taxation, and communicate updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and staff through technical training, performance development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Oversee engagement quality, risk management, billing, and client service to ensure exceptional delivery across multiple engagements.
  • Contribute to thought leadership through technical publications, presentations, industry events, and internal educational programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, JD, or Enrolled Agent credential with authorization to practice before the IRS.
  • Minimum of 8 years of public accounting tax experience or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership experience managing client engagements and developing tax professionals.
  • Advanced knowledge of high net worth individual taxation, fiduciary income tax, trust taxation, estate tax, gift tax, and pass through entity taxation.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws, accounting principles, and tax compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex engagements while maintaining exceptional client relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to perform advanced tax research and provide practical, strategic recommendations for sophisticated tax matters.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience advising high net worth individuals, families, trusts, and estates on wealth preservation and tax planning strategies.
  • Experience developing client relationships and supporting business development initiatives.
