This is a client-facing planning role. You will work closely with our wealth advisors, estate attorneys, actuaries, and network of outside CPA firms. Tax returns are generally prepared and filed by our CPA network firms; this role focuses on planning, coordination, and reviewing whether recommendations are carried through to the filings. The position offers a potential path to Vice President of the Financial Planning Division.

Responsibilities
  • Review new clients’ tax returns, business interests, investments, retirement plans, and estate documents to identify planning opportunities.
  • Lead year-round tax planning and coordinate with outside CPA firms on individual, business, fiduciary, and gift tax filings.
  • Review draft returns and supporting information with the filing CPA to help ensure agreed-upon planning strategies are reflected accurately.
  • Advise on gift tax reporting, including Form 709, and coordinate gifting strategies with estate planning attorneys and filing CPAs.
  • Evaluate real estate professional status, including activity and documentation requirements, for clients with real estate and development interests.
  • Analyze cost segregation studies, depreciation strategies, and their current and future tax implications.
  • Coordinate tax planning for charitable strategies, including charitable lead annuity trusts (CLATs).

  • Advise on the tax rules for traditional and Roth IRAs, SEP IRAs, 529 plan distributions, and required minimum distributions (RMDs).
  • Identify appropriate tax planning opportunities, including state pass-through entity tax (PTET) elections, depreciation strategies, and business structure decisions such as LLC taxation and S corporation elections.
  • Explain recommendations clearly to clients and follow through with the advisory team and outside professionals.
Qualifications
  • Active CPA license.
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a tax advisor, including substantial work with high net worth individuals and business owners.
  • Strong background in tax planning and the ability to review complex returns, even though routine return preparation is not the primary responsibility of this role.

  • Strong communication and relationship management skills, including experience collaborating with clients’ outside CPAs and attorneys.
