Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Revenue is seeking an Compliance Discovery Examiner to conduct on-site and in-office reviews, document findings, and educate taxpayers on their tax obligations. You will compile work papers and use reports/databases to support recommendations.

The role emphasizes accuracy, analytical skills, and clear communication with taxpayers and Revenue staff. Position requires relevant education in bookkeeping/accounting or mathematics and either two years of related experience

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Post high school education or training in bookkeeping, accounting, or mathematics and at least two years of related experience; OR associate's degree in finance or accounting.
• Preferred Qualifications: At least six hours in accounting. Work experience in federal or state taxation.
• Other: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
• Knowledge of financial and accounting records and principles.
• Intermediate working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Math skills.
• Communication skills.
• Analytical abilities.
• Research abilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site and/or in-office reviews to ensure compliance.
• Prepare workpapers or spreadsheets to document work.
• Contact taxpayers to request records of information or to explain process and requirements.
• Respond to taxpayer requests for information and explanations.
• Document relevant facts, information, results, and recommendation through reports and databases.
• Discuss findings with Revenue professionals to resolve issues or make recommendations.
