Job summary

The State of Iowa, Department of Revenue—Compliance Division, is seeking a Revenue Compliance Officer 1 to join our Individual Tax team. This role supports tax processing, audits, and education of taxpayers and licensees across Iowa from the comfort of a home office as needed.

You will engage with customers via phone, email, or in person; review returns; and determine refunds or amounts owed while upholding Iowa laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time work experience in tax, collections, accounting, auditing, or related fields.
• Two years of education and/or experience (30 semester hours = 1 year).
• An associate degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must reside within the State of Iowa.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with account-level inquiries by phone, in person, and email about tax credits.
• Resolve sensitive situations using good judgment and clear communication with customers.
• Conduct complex tax audits by office investigation to verify credits claimed.
• Review tax returns and determine refunds or amounts due through data gathering.
