Job summary

Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts is hiring Tax Auditors for entry-level audits with on-the-job training during the first six months in-office. Travel to training centers is required roughly every three weeks, then telework is allowed.

Candidates should have a relevant accounting degree and may advance to Tax Auditor II or III based on experience and performance. The division emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and public trust, offering ongoing training, benefits, and state service

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting; or a finance or business degree with at least 12 accounting hours; or any field with 24 accounting hours.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for audit engagement on entry-level tax audits.
• Establishes audit period and reviews laws, rules, and policy to develop an audit plan.
• Conducts audits of entry-level tax audits and documents findings.
• Performs entrance/exit conferences with taxpayers and explains tax rights.
• Presents audit reports and schedules with tax projections.
• Meets training requirements and plans tasks to optimize efficiency.
• Supports assignments through the redetermination process and hearings.

Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting

Bachelor's or Master's in finance or business with 12 accounting hours

Bachelor's or Master's in any field with 24 accounting hours
