Job summary

Haynie & Company is seeking a Tax Associate in the United States with a focus on accurate federal and state tax return preparation. The role emphasizes attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and growth within a collaborative team environment.

You will work under supervision to learn tax rules while preparing returns and supporting clients with tax-related information and documentation. This is a full-time position located in Texas, Odessa, with strong career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
• Basic understanding of debits, credits, and financial statements
• CPA or CPA eligible, preferred
• Exposure to CCH, Lacerte, QuickBooks, and Canopy, preferred
• Previous experience in public accounting with exposure to preparing federal and state income tax returns, preferred
• Accommodating and analytical while producing highly precise and accurate work

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely federal and state tax returns, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to support efficient tax processes and compliance
• Work with clients to gather information and resolve tax-related issues
• Review and analyze financial statements and supporting documentation to ensure accurate tax reporting
• Collaborate with team members through knowledge sharing and collective problem-solving, contributing to cohesive efforts within the team
• Continuously learn and apply basic tax principles and procedures through hands-on experience with a supervisor

What you’ll need to be our Tax Associate

• Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, OR equivalent experience
• Basic understanding of debits, credits, and general financial statements
• Technical verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to maintain a consistent and reliable work schedule
• CPA or CPA eligible, preferred
• Exposure to CCH, Lacerte, QuickBooks, and Canopy, preferred
• Previous experience in public accounting with exposure to preparing federal and state income tax returns, preferred
• Accommodating and analytical while producing highly precise and accurate work
