Job summary

Otter Tail Power Company seeks a strategic leader for Tax Accounting & Payroll to guide income, property, and sales tax, plus payroll operations. You will lead a skilled team, ensure accurate tax filings, and drive regulatory compliance while partnering across finance and business units.

The role reports to the Controller and emphasizes talent development, tax strategy, and financial planning in a regulated energy utility environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in corporate taxation, tax accounting, public accounting, auditing, or related tax function.
• Leadership experience supervising and developing employees.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and tax accounting.
• Ability to analyze and communicate complex tax and payroll matters.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for income tax, property tax, sales and use tax, and payroll operations.
• Oversee tax accounting, reporting, compliance, and filing activities, including current and deferred taxes and tax credits.
• Provide direction to Payroll Supervisor to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
• Oversee payroll tax filings and regulatory reporting, including compliance and internal controls.
• Collaborate with Executives and Business Partners to develop tax strategies and financial planning.
