Otter Tail Power Company in Fergus Falls, MN seeks a strategic Manager, Tax Accounting & Payroll to lead income tax, property tax, sales and use tax, and payroll operations. You will guide a talented team and report to the Controller, partnering with Accounting, Regulatory, Treasury, HR, Legal, and Operations.

You will oversee tax accounting, compliance, and regulatory reporting, drive tax strategies and forecasting, and ensure GAAP/ SOX controls while supporting regulatory outcomes and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• Eight+ years in corporate taxation, tax accounting, or related field.
• Experience supervising and developing staff.
• Knowledge of federal, state, local tax laws and payroll tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for income tax, property tax, sales and use tax, and payroll operations.
• Oversee tax accounting, reporting, compliance, and filing activities.
• Provide management oversight to Payroll Supervisor for accurate and timely payroll.”
• Oversee payroll tax filings and regulatory reporting and compliance with federal/state requirements and collective bargaining agreements.
• Collaborate with executives and business partners to develop tax strategies and advise on tax implications of major investments.
• Provide tax leadership for rate cases, regulatory proceedings, tax forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning.
• Evaluate tax legislation and renewable energy incentives for financial and regulatory impact.
• Ensure GAAP, FERC, SOX, internal controls, and payroll compliance.
• Identify and lead process, system, reporting, and data governance improvements across tax and payroll.
