Job summary

Target in Lancaster, OH is hiring a Security Specialist to help protect guests, team members, and merchandise. This role develops crisis response, de‑escalation, and use of surveillance systems while delivering friendly, helpful service.

You will greet guests, assist with locating products, document incidents, and maintain safety standards in a fast‑paced environment. Applicants must be 18+, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

• Remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.

• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide apprehension support.
• Prevent theft and shortage by performing receipt checks and recognizing trends.
• Use Target’s video surveillance system appropriately.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely at all times; comply with safety policies and correct hazards where possible.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.

Job description

Starting hourly rate: $18.75 USD per hour. Pay range: $18.75 USD – $28.15 USD per hour.

About Asset Protection

Asset Protection (AP) teams keep guests, staff, and brand secure and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing, and resolving theft and fraud to ensure product is available for the guest. They also build relationships inside and outside Target, including store leaders, public safety officials, and law enforcement.

Role of a Target Security Specialist

The role of a Target Security Specialist offers experience and skills in intelligence‑led tactics, crisis response, safety and crowd management, de‑escalation, physical security controls, and Target’s video surveillance system. Key responsibilities include:

• Using intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
• Crisis response, safety and crowd management; providing support to guests and team members.
• De‑escalation and use of physical security controls.
• Using Target’s video surveillance system.
• Timely and accurate documentation of cases using case management systems.

Additional Expectations

• Climb up and down ladders.
• Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently, lifting up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays), arrive when scheduled, and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Be able to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
• Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
