Job summary

Suncor in Houston is seeking a Specialist Commercial Advisor to drive chartering and optimization of Canadian-flagged marine assets while supporting North American markets. You will interface with Trading, Marine Assurance, Operations, Scheduling, Ship Owners and external stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective transportation of crude oil, refined products, and feedstocks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of tanker chartering, shipping, trading support, or marine logistics experience.
• Direct experience with tanker chartering, freight negotiations, and vessel operations.
• Strong commercial negotiation and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage the chartering and commercial utilization of Canadian-flagged tanker tonnage supporting domestic and coastal trading activities
• Ensure compliance with Canadian marine transportation regulations, cabotage requirements, and HSSE standards.
• Analyze tanker market trends, freight indices, vessel positioning, arbitrage opportunities, and regional trading flows.
• Provide freight market intelligence and recommendations to trading and commercial teams.
• Work closely with Marine Operations and Scheduling teams to ensure successful voyage execution.
• Assist and help manage Aframax and MR tanker chartering by executing spot and term vessel procurement, negotiating commercial terms, monitoring freight market dynamics, and optimizing chartering strategies to balance cost, risk, and operational flexibility.
