Job description

Our client, a growing international shipowner and commercial operator, is seeking a Junior Charterer to join its Houston-based commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career maritime professional to develop within the commercial tanker market while working alongside experienced chartering professionals.

The successful candidate will support the chartering team with market research, voyage analysis, vessel and cargo positioning, broker communications, and the development of customer and industry relationships. As the individual gains experience, the position will provide increasing exposure to commercial negotiations, voyage economics, and the full chartering process.

This role is designed for someone who already has some exposure to the commercial tanker industry but remains early enough in their career to be trained and developed within the company’s established approach to the market.

Ideal candidates will possess:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a maritime academy or another relevant university program; maritime academy graduates strongly preferred
  • Previous shoreside exposure to the commercial tanker market through chartering, vessel operations, shipbroking, freight analysis, demurrage, or a related function
  • Sea-going experience aboard tankers considered a strong plus
  • Understanding of tanker terminology, vessel operations, charter parties, and basic voyage economics
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market information and commercial data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence interacting with brokers, vessel operators, customers, and internal commercial teams
  • A collaborative, commercially curious, and highly motivated approach
  • Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and develop within an established chartering organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Current authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • This is a junior‑level developmental position offering direct exposure to the commercial tanker market, experienced mentorship, and a clear opportunity to grow into greater chartering responsibility.

The position is based in Houston and requires regular in-office attendance. Our client offers a competitive base salary, performance-based bonus potential, comprehensive benefits, and excellent long-term professional development opportunities.
