Job summary

PALA Group, Hammond, LA, seeks an experienced welder to lay out, fit and weld metal components for pipelines, tanks, structural steel and vehicles. You will read blueprints and perform calculations with basic math to complete tasks with minimal supervision.

The role requires at least three years of SMAW, GTAW and Flux Core experience, the ability to weld to ASME Section 9 in all positions, and the stamina to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years’ welding experience with SMAW, GTAW and Flux Core.
• Must pass welding test as required by the job site.
• High School or GED preferred but not required; Trade School preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and maintain safety, quality and production standards.
• Weld to ASME Section 9 in all positions.
• Operate air arc-gouging and burning torch with limited grinding.
• Operate all air and electric power tools used in tank repair.
• Recognize proper weld joint fit-up and follow welding methods.
• Demonstrate proper rigging techniques.
• Use key plates and fit-up equipment to control banding and peaking in seams.
• Weld approx. 180 ft of seal pass weld using 5P 3/16" electrodes.
• Weld approx. 250 ft of jet weld on 3/16" and 1/4" CS lap weld using 7024-1 electrodes.
• Weld approx. 130 ft of completed 3/8" corner weld using 7/32" 7018 electrodes.
• Weld vertical/horizontal welds for various thicknesses using 7018 electrodes.
• Complete items 8-10 with <=30 minutes pickup per day.
• Butterring not included.
• Complete item 11 with RT rate >=95%.
• Work at elevations using ladders on tank scaffold and shell buggies.
• Work under breathing air with respirator.
• Willing to perform other tank duties as needed.
• Work in confined space.
• Operate a Man-Lift.
