Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking an experienced welder to lay out, fit, and weld metal components for pipelines, boilers, tanks, structural steel and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Ability to understand and follow safety rules and set an example in Safety, Quality, and Production.
• Weld to Section 9 of ASME Code in all positions.
• Operate air arc-gouging and burning torch with limited grinding.
• Operate power tools used in tank repair.
• Recognize proper fit up of weld joints and follow welding methods.
• Demonstrate proper rigging techniques.
• Use key plates and fit-up equipment to control banding and peaking.
• Weld 180 linear feet of seal pass weld with 5P 3/16" electrodes.
• Weld 250 linear feet of jet weld on 3/16" and 1/4" CS with 7024-1 electrodes.
• Weld 130 linear feet of 3/8" corner weld with 7/32" 7018 electrodes.
• Weld vertical/horizontal with 7018 on various thicknesses.
• Complete items 8-10 with minimal pickup work per day.
• Complete item 11 with RT rate ≥95%.
• Work at elevations using ladders on tank scaffold.
• Work in breathing air conditions with respirator.
• Willing to perform other tank duties as needed.
• Work in confined spaces.
• Operate a Man-Lift.

Summary

Lays out, fits and welds together metal components of such products as pipelines, boilers, tanks, structural steel and vehicles.

Reads, studies and interprets job specifications, plans and blue prints. Uses basic math skills including geometry, trigonometry to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Functions

1. Ability to understand and follow all safety rules and to set an example in Safety, Quality, and Production. Measurable criteria will be used in these areas to determine classification.
2. Ability to weld to Section 9 of ASME Code in all positions.
3. Operations of air arc-gouging and burning torch that requires limited grinding to complete welding process.
4. Operation of all air and electric power tools used in a normal tank repair.
5. Ability to recognize the proper fit up of weld joints and ability to understand and follow the outlined method of welding.
6. Exemplify proper techniques of rigging.
7. Understand the proper use of key plates and fit up equipment to control banding and peaking in horizontal and vertical seams.
8. Ability to weld approximately 180 linear feet of acceptable seal pass weld using 5P 3/16" electrodes.
9. Ability to weld approximately 250 linear feet of acceptable jet weld on 3/16" and 1/4" CS lap weld using 7024-1 electrodes.
10. Ability to weld approximately 130 linear feet of completed 3/8" comer weld using 7/32" 7018 electrodes.
11. Ability to weld linear feet of vertical and horizontal weld for the following thickness using 7018 electrodes (completed weld):
12. Ability to complete items 8 - 10 with no more than 30 minutes of pickup work per day.*Buttering has not been included.

14. Ability to complete item 11 with an acceptable RT rate of 95% or higher.

18. Ability to work in confined space.
