  • Repairs and reworks car parts such as brakes, underframes, and couplers.
  • Maintains clean, safe work area and reports hazards.

ULTX offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, along with the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative, safety-focused team that values enthusiasm, craftsmanship, professional growth and continuous improvementPosition Summary:The Car Repairman is responsible for performing welding and mechanical repairs on tank cars, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and quality while following established procedures and working in a physically demanding industrial environment..Primary Responsibilities:Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.Required Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment TestMust pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the companyDemonstrated mechanical aptitudeAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamAbility to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervisionAbility to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly documentsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.Ability to work any shift, including overtime, as permitted by the union contractDependable attendance and reliabilityPreferred Qualifications:Welding certificationsExperience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.Rail industry experienceValve and fittings experienceTank car knowledge or experienceWork Environment & Schedule:Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involves regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions.Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditionsExposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is commonJob requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spacesMust be able to enter tank cars through 20‑inch manway openingsManual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operationPotential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spillsMust comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocolsVision correctable to 20/30 for inspection tasksOn-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.Disclaimer:Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
