Job description

We're looking for more than a Talent Acquisition Specialist. We're looking for someone who can help build the workforce behind a growing manufacturing company.

Midwest Metals is expanding rapidly across multiple manufacturing locations, and competition for skilled talent is high. We need someone who understands manufacturing, gets out into the community, builds relationships, and isn't afraid to think differently about where our next employees will come from. You'll also need to be comfortable working from a manual Excel-based tracker today while helping us select and implement an Applicant Tracking System for tomorrow.

ABOUT MIDWEST METALS

Midwest Metals is a privately held, family-owned manufacturing company on the move. We started in steel processing, and we are now building something bigger: a diversified manufacturing organization with locations across Michigan, and more on the way.

Our momentum comes from two directions. We are acquiring well-run manufacturers that bring new capabilities, new customers, and talented teams into the Midwest Metals family. At the same time, we are growing organically by investing in our existing operations, expanding capacity, adding equipment and services, and deepening relationships with the customers who already count on us.

What has not changed is who we are. Integrity, hard work, long-term relationships, and taking care of our people are still at the heart of everything we do. We are building a company designed to thrive for generations, with the entrepreneurial energy of a fast-growing business and the culture of a family that looks out for its own.

WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY IS DIFFERENT

We're not looking for someone to simply post jobs and wait for applicants. You'll help build the recruiting engine for a growing manufacturing organization, from talent pipelines and community partnerships to recruiting technology, processes, and metrics.

That might mean building a relationship with a local trade school, launching an employee referral campaign, creating a high school talent pipeline, networking with skilled trades professionals, or trying an approach we haven't thought of yet.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner is responsible for full-cycle recruiting, proactive talent pipeline development, and community outreach across Midwest Metals. This role partners closely with Operations and Human Resources to translate workforce plans into recruiting strategies and serves as an ambassador for Midwest Metals in the communities where we operate.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

The position is based at our Temperance, Michigansiteand supports our locations in Adrian, Litchfield, Morenci, and Detroit, Michigan. Travel may be required from time to time between our various site operations, up to 40%.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Operations views Talent Acquisition as a proactive business partner, not simply a service that fills requisitions.
  • Workforce demand is anticipated, and strong pipelines exist for difficult-to-fill and high-demand manufacturing positions.
  • Midwest Metals has a visible recruiting presence and strong relationships with schools, trade programs, workforce organizations, and community groups.
  • Hiring managers receive qualified candidates quickly and have confidence in the recruiting process.
  • A scalable Applicant Tracking System is successfully selected, implemented, and adopted.
  • Candidates have a positive experience from first contact through their first day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own full-cycle recruiting for production, skilled trades, technical, professional, and leadership positions.
  • Partner with Operations and HR Business Partners to understand production plans, workforce forecasts, turnover, growth, and future hiring needs.
  • Develop proactive sourcing strategies and talent pipelines for maintenance, electrical, machining, welding, production, logistics, and other manufacturing roles.
  • Continually identify new recruiting channels, partnerships, and events, and build relationships with passive candidates before an opening exists.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Midwest Metals at job fairs, networking and community events, schools, and workforce development programs.
  • Build long-term relationships with high schools, career and technical education programs, community colleges, trade schools, universities, and workforce organizations.
  • Develop employee referral programs, recruiting campaigns, and employer branding that strengthen talent pipelines.
  • Help build recruiting processes, interview practices, standards, and hiring manager resources from the ground up.
  • Maintain accurate recruiting and candidate data in an Excel-based tracker while recruiting technology is being developed.
  • Help evaluate, select, and implement an Applicant Tracking System, including process design, configuration, testing, hiring manager training, and adoption.
  • Develop recruiting metrics such as time-to-fill, source effectiveness, offer acceptance, and new-hire retention, and use the data to improve hiring outcomes.
  • Support hiring for new facilities, acquisitions, and expansions, and partner with HR to strengthen new-hire onboarding.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of full-cycle recruiting or talent acquisition experience.
  • Recent experience recruiting within manufacturing, industrial, skilled trades, or a closely related environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting difficult-to-fill skilled trades and manufacturing positions, including high-volume hiring.
  • Strong sourcing skills and demonstrated creativity in developing new recruiting strategies and talent pipelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the confidence to represent Midwest Metals externally.
  • Experience developing relationships with schools, trade programs, workforce organizations, or community partners preferred.
  • Experience partnering directly with plant managers, Operations leaders, and HR Business Partners.
  • Experience helping select, implement, or optimize an Applicant Tracking System preferred.
  • Strong Excel, organization, and communication skills, with comfort working in a fast-moving environment where processes are still being defined.
WHO WILL THRIVE HERE

The ideal candidate is a connector, relationship builder, and creative problem solver who happens to be an exceptional recruiter. They don't believe recruiting starts when a requisition opens, and they aren't afraid to get out from behind the computer: walking into a trade school, meeting people at a networking event, or visiting our plants. When everyone else is competing for the same skilled workers in the same places, they ask, "Where aren't we looking?"

They're comfortable in a build-as-we-grow environment and understand that recruiting isn't just about filling today's openings. It's about building Midwest Metals' reputation, relationships, and talent pipelines for the future.

WHAT WE OFFER

At Midwest Metals, we believe taking care of our people is an important part of building a great company. Our benefits package is designed to support the health, financial well-being, and work-life balance of our employees and their families.

OUR COMMITMENT

We aren't looking for someone to simply fill jobs. We're looking for someone who wants to help build the workforce behind a growing manufacturing company. Our greatest competitive advantage is our people, and this role will help shape who joins our company and how we're known in our communities.

If that opportunity excites you, we'd welcome the opportunity to meet you.
