Job summary

Sylvan, Inc. in Detroit seeks a Talent Acquisition & HRIS Specialist to lead full-cycle recruitment for professional, technical, engineering, and corporate roles within construction and automotive conveyor industries.

You will be the primary recruiting resource and oversee HRIS administration. Work closely with hiring managers to attract, hire, and retain top talent, develop recruiting strategies, maintain ATS data, generate reports, and support onboarding, compliance, and workforce planning

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, preferably within construction, manufacturing, industrial automation, engineering, or automotive industries.
  • Experience administering HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Experience supporting workforce planning and talent acquisition metrics.

The Talent Acquisition & HRIS Specialist is responsible for managing the full-cycle recruitment process for professional, technical, engineering, and corporate positions within the construction and automotive conveyor industries. This role serves as the primary recruiting resource for the organization while also supporting the administration, maintenance, reporting, and continuous improvement of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).

The ideal candidate is a proactive talent acquisition professional who understands the unique challenges of recruiting in the construction and industrial automation sectors, including project-based hiring, skilled trades recruitment, engineering talent acquisition, and workforce planning. The role partners closely with hiring managers to attract, hire, and retain top talent while ensuring data integrity and efficient HR technology processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition & Recruitment

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for exempt, non-exempt, engineering, project management, field operations, and corporate positions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop recruiting strategies, establish hiring requirements, and define candidate profiles.
  • Draft and post job advertisements on company career sites, job boards, social media platforms, and industry-specific recruiting channels.
  • Source candidates through direct outreach, networking, referrals, professional associations, trade schools, colleges, and online recruiting platforms.
  • Screen resumes, conduct initial interviews, and assess candidate qualifications.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews between candidates and hiring teams.
  • Administer pre-employment screening processes, including background checks, reference checks, employment verification, and drug testing.
  • Prepare and extend employment offers while ensuring internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Maintain applicant tracking system (ATS) records and recruitment metrics.
  • Develop talent pipelines for high-demand positions.
  • Participate in career fairs, industry events, trade school partnerships, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Monitor recruiting effectiveness and recommend improvements to reduce time-to-fill and improve candidate quality.

HRIS Administration & Reporting

  • Serve as the primary administrator for the organization's HRIS, ATS, and related HR technology platforms.
  • Maintain employee demographic, organizational, compensation, and employment records within the HRIS.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance across HR systems.
  • Generate regular and ad hoc reports related to headcount, turnover, recruiting metrics, compensation, and organizational structure.
  • Develop and maintain HR dashboards and workforce analytics.
  • Create and maintain HR workflows, forms, and system documentation.
  • Train managers and employees on self-service HRIS functionality.

Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Coordinate new hire onboarding activities and orientation programs.
  • Facilitate new employee integration and support hiring managers during the onboarding process.
  • Maintain onboarding workflows and compliance tracking within HR systems.

Compliance & Human Resources Support

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local employment laws.
  • Support affirmative action, EEO, and diversity recruiting initiatives.
  • Maintain recruiting and employment records in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Assist with workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Support HR projects, audits, and special initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborate with payroll, benefits, and HR teams to ensure accurate employee data management.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 3+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, preferably within construction, manufacturing, industrial automation, engineering, or automotive industries.
  • Experience recruiting engineering, project management, and technical positions preferred.
  • Experience administering HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
  • Experience supporting workforce planning and talent acquisition metrics.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with HRIS and ATS platforms such as UKG, Vista, or similar systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and reporting tools.
  • Experience creating reports, dashboards, and workforce analytics.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn Recruiter and other sourcing platforms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of recruiting best practices and employment laws.
  • Excellent interviewing, sourcing, and candidate assessment skills.
  • Understanding of construction and industrial labor markets.
