Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking a skilled Lineman Apprentice/Journey to construct, maintain, and repair transmission and distribution lines in the Lisbon area. The role involves climbing, operating heavy equipment, and restoring service during storms, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, completion of a recognized lineman apprenticeship, journeyman certification, CPR/First Aid, and 4+ years in line work; a Class A CDL may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Equivalent to four-year formal apprenticeship training such as the I.B.E.W. Lineman Apprenticeship Course.
  • Journeyman lineman certificate or equivalent, CPR and First Aid.
  • 4 or more years experience in line construction, operation, maintenance work or equivalent.
  • DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FMCSA regulations (Part 382).
  • May be required to obtain and maintain Class "A" CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Install, tension, tie in and remove conductors.
  • Install, frame and climb poles and structures; disassemble as needed.
  • Operate basket trucks, digger trucks, trenchers, backhoes and other construction equipment.
  • Restore electric service after weather events or equipment failures.
  • Install and maintain street and security lighting equipment.
  • Operate and maintain hydraulic tools and systems.
  • Install underground electrical equipment including cable, switchgear and terminations.
  • Follow safety and construction standards; CPR and First Aid readiness.
