Job summary

AES Corporation in Indianapolis invites power systems engineering interns to join the US Utilities – T&D Standards & Innovation team. You will support DOE awarded projects focused on grid protection, control technologies, grid operation and planning modeling, and DER/EV analytics.

The internship targets advanced degree students (MS/PhD) with Electrical Engineering backgrounds, strong analytical skills, and programming ability.

Qualifications

Candidate must be a second-year master's or PhD student or higher.
Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
Strong academic background with attention to detail and presentation skills.
Familiarity with power flow and power system analysis software is helpful.
Proficiency in at least one programming language required.

Responsibilities

Support development of protection and control technologies for future grids.
Develop hardware-in-the-loop testing plans for relays, controllers, and sensors.
Investigate and deploy communication platforms for centralized and edge control.
Conduct power system analysis using software like PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, DSA Tools, and ASPEN/CAPE.
Develop statistical models to predict power system parameters.
Collaborate with various utility departments to ensure project success.
Prepare and present technical papers/reports.
Assist with equipment evaluations, tests, pilots, and standardization.
Complete additional assignments as determined by supervisor.
