Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking power systems/engineering interns to join the US Utilities - T&D Standards & Innovation team. You will support grid protection and control technologies, modeling, analytics, and DER/EV integration projects while aligning with equipment specifications and design practices.

Ideal candidates are completing a Master’s/PhD in Electrical Engineering or hold an Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree, with strong analytical skills and programming

Qualifications

• Second-year Master’s or PhD student or higher preferred.
• Undergrad degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Strong academic background with attention to detail and presentation skills.
• Familiarity with power flow, symmetric components, and stability recommended.
• Proficiency in power system analysis and at least one programming language required.

Responsibilities

• Support development of protection and control technologies for future grids.
• Develop HIL testing plans for relays, controllers, and sensors.
• Investigate and deploy communication platforms for centralized/edge control.
• Perform power system analysis using PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, and other tools.
• Develop models to predict power system parameters and analyze grid-enhancing tech.
• Assist with equipment evaluations, tests, pilots, and standardization.
• Prepare technical reports and papers; collaborate with utility departments.
