We are seeking a Systems Test Engineer to serve as the front line for robot uptime and system reliability in San Francisco. You will work on-site to monitor daily protocol runs, solve operational challenges in real time, and ensure complex robotic systems run at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor and ensure high reliability across daily robotic protocol runs.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware/software operational issues using SOPs, playbooks, and system intuition.
- Document complex issues into clear, structured incident reports with metadata for core hardware and software engineering teams.
- Utilize health dashboards and alerting systems to flag potential bottlenecks before production failures occur.
- Perform regular calibration checks and preventive maintenance on robotic arms, peripherals, and lab consumables.
- Document observations, failures, and fixes to help build site-specific knowledge bases and drive data-driven product improvements.
- Assist with hardware upgrades, validate software deployments, and execute post-update validation test runs.
- Partner with customer scientists to manage run schedules and communicate system status.
Qualifications
- Technical Background: Educational or hands-on experience in Robotics, Engineering, Automation, or Mechatronics.
- Proven experience working with automation equipment, following SOPs, and diagnosing basic hardware/software issues.
- Excellent written communication skills for filing detailed incident logs and coordinating daily with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Dependable, detail-oriented approach with a habit of documenting observations and proactively flagging potential risks.
- Willingness to adjust schedules or be on-call when critical customer runs require technical support.
